Artist Biography

Peter J. Vaice

Pete retired from an Engineering Career where he designed products for Commercial Airlines, Military Fighter-Pilots, Semiconductor Equipment Manufacturers as well as many other kinds of projects.

His Engineering experience trained him to always look at objects in their three dimensions. This naturally made Sculpture and Carving in the round more appealing than other forms of Art.

Pete has developed sculptures and carvings purely for his own enjoyment and mental relaxation for over twenty years. (It is hard to ponder engineering problems while keeping track of your fingers when working with razor sharp knives and chisels).

Since his retirement, he has devoted his full time to his love of working with wood fullfulling the desire to fondly recall the wildlife he admired as he patiently sculpts or carves their likeness.

Growing up in the midwest, he spent many of his boyhood hours in the woods, by its woodland streams and ponds observing and studying the abundant wildlife and waterfowl near his home.

Pete is now a resident of Big Bear Valley, a historic community that is elevated over 7000 feet up in California's San Bernardino Mountains. The Valley was originally noted for its large grizzly bear population, gold mining and logging of giant pine trees.

These days the valley is gaining attention for its clean mountain air, clear waters, great summer fishing, World class skiing and snow boarding. The National Forest surrounding Big Bear Valley is teeming with Birds and varied wildlife to both study and (the best part) just to enjoy!
